Has the bull market gone too long?

I am an optimist about most things in life. I know there are horrible events that happen to normal people. Bad things happen to good people. There are natural disasters and catastrophes and mass shootings and Great Depressions and genocide.

Still, I’m an optimist. That puts me in the minority when it comes to things like the stock market. Though I console myself that I have good company since Warren Buffet apparently believes the same.

A fair number of people believe we’re in one of the longest bull markets in American history. Here is one randomly googled example: http://www.cnbc.com/2016/07/13/merrill-second-longest-bull-market-ever-has-further-to-run.html

A few days ago The Reformed Broker had a nice post on all the problems with this calculation.

I think he makes a good case that, to be accurate, the current bull began in the spring of 2013 and thus is only a bit over 3 years old.
